Drinking Fountain Retrofit for Refilling Water Bottles | Refill Station | New Invention - EZ H20

Updated on November 13, 2014

New Bubbler - Product That Eliminates Plastic Water Bottles

"Americans spent more money last year on bottled water than on ipods or movie tickets: $15 Billion."1  As a personal trainer, I encourage my clients to consume water. In fact many of my first time clients have severe leg and foot cramps from trying to exercise without sufficient hydration. But the convenience of grabbing that bottled water has created a menace for our environment. The challenge - how to stay hydrated? Technology and innovation to the rescue - look at the new drinking fountains - there are even retrofits.

And here are a couple of important facts from our friends in Australia:

"• Over 400,000 barrels of oil is used per year in Australia to manufacture the plastic to make the bottles
• Out of all plastic bottles only about 30% are recycled
• Tap water costs 1 cent per litre compared to bottled water which costs $2.53 per litre
• It takes seven litres of water to make a one litre water bottle
• There are 200 billion litres of bottled water consumed worldwide with an estimate of $100 billion dollars"2

Resuable Plastic Water Bottles Now Possible

The water coolers, "bubblers" or drinking fountains - whatever you choose to call them - this is a great new invention. And the website exclaims that these units even fill faster! For those at my health club waiting patiently in line to fill their reusable water bottles - this new drinking fountain appropriately labelled EZ H2O is a personal trainer's delight. This is a new item every health club, every school must install!

Benefits Beyond the Land Fill

This new innovation gives benefits beyond just not filling up the land fill. These state of the art water coolers also deliver filtered water that removes chlorine and provides critical lead reduction.

Recently I learned that Elkay - the same company that innovated this cooler also was the brains behind developing a water filter that filters out lead.

Lead in Your Drinking Water

Many homes, even homes with copper plumbing have lead in their water due to the lead joints in the copper plumbing. Some water services are actual lead pipes. And the plastic piping is not recommended because plastic harbor bacteria. Copper is a natural anti-microbial so the old time plumbers who adamantly extolled the benefits of copper were right! Science has proven the validity that copper is kind to the human body!

Always Run Tap Water Before Drinking

When taking a drink from a drinking fountain or tap water, it is critical to have fresh cold water. The water sitting in the pipes is a breeding ground for bacteria. Let the water run a few minutes. The health of your body depends upon it!

Never Let Your Children's Mouth/Face Touch the Fountain

Children are often exuberant in everything that they do - to this end, it is important to train our young ones (and your teenagers too!) not to allow their mouth or any part of their face to touch the fountain. The drinking fountains are designed for this safety - use the bubbler correctly.

Deadly Triangle - Eyes, Mouth and Nose

Dr. Oz recently mentioned the "deadly triangle" - which is our eyes, mouth and nose. Bacteria love and often thrive and not just survive in water.

Be especially careful with your eyes, mouth and nose - that is the most susceptible place for bacteria to enter.

And while not all bacteria is bad, if we reduce exposure - we can reduce or prevent illness.

Why Retrofit A Cooler/Drinking Fountain

To some the natural thought is to install a sink to fill the reusable water bottles. Yet, many sinks do not offer the filter. The EZH20 Cooler Kit includes the lead reduction filter. Take the chlorine out for taste, take the lead out for safety, enjoy the real taste of water.

The Story of Bottled Water 2010

"Bubbler" AKA Drinking Fountain - Cooler - Current usage of term

The term "bubbler" is still "used in several regional dialects of the United States, originating in eastern Wisconsin and remaining well-known throughout the state. The term is widely used in Australia. Oregon is also known to be quite familiar with the term, specifically in the PortlandSimon Benson installed 20 fountains, which are now known in the Portland area as "Benson Bubblers". It also also commonly used in New England, especially the state of Rhode Island."3

Interestingly, when I grew up in Illinois the only term I knew was "drinking fountain". I heard "bubbler" when I attended Marquette University and laughed. The laugh was actually on me - Wisconsin invented the bubbler! I was the one not in the know!
